In plain language
This post is mostly accurate. The three sources it cites are real, correctly named and correctly dated, which is unusual for viral fitness content. World Health Organization guidelines do treat aerobic activity and muscle strengthening as two separate requirements, recommending 150 to 300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per week plus muscle strengthening for all major muscle groups on at least two days per week. Walking is officially classified as aerobic activity, not muscle strengthening, and the principle that different training stimuli produce different adaptations is well established in physiology research. Two caveats are worth knowing. First, walking is not entirely strength neutral. Studies in older, previously sedentary or frail adults have found modest gains in lower limb strength and muscle quality from walking programmes, and the post's slides hedge this correctly even though the headline does not. Second, the post cites a 2009 American College of Sports Medicine document that has since been replaced by an updated version, and it attributes comparative conclusions to sources that do not directly compare walking against resistance training. Note also that the post is produced by a personal training business and ends with a pitch for its own paid services.

- Walking is classified as aerobic activity, not muscle-strengthening activity, in the guideline framework. Correct.
- The 150 to 300 minutes figure is quoted accurately from WHO 2020, including the "or an equivalent combination" qualifier.
- The "2 or more days per week, all major muscle groups" muscle-strengthening recommendation is quoted accurately from WHO 2020.
- WHO does treat these as two separate requirements. The post's line that "one does not cancel the need for the other" is a fair reading of the guideline structure.
- The specificity of adaptation principle is real, mainstream, and directly supports the claim that different stimuli produce different adaptations.

- Slight overreach in the headline framing. The phrase "does not serve as an effective substitute for resistance training" is defensible for healthy and general adult populations, but the binary framing understates a real finding: in frail, very old, or deconditioned people, walking-based aerobic training has produced measurable gains in lower limb strength and muscle quality. The carousel slides hedge this correctly. The distilled one-line claim does not. This is a mild omitted-qualifier issue created by compression, not by intent.
- Source attribution stretch. The slide "What walking often misses," attributed to Fragala et al. 2019, is an extrapolation. Fragala is a position statement on how older adults should resistance train. It is not a study comparing walking to resistance training, and it does not itself analyse walking's deficiencies. The conclusion is reasonable, but the source does not literally state it.
- Similarly, the "They train different qualities" slide is attributed to ACSM 2009 and WHO 2020. Neither document is a head-to-head comparison of walking versus resistance training. The inference is sound; the citation implies more direct support than exists.
- Population transfer. Fragala et al. concerns adults 65 and older. The post applies it to a general audience without flagging the age restriction.

The trials showing walking-induced hypertrophy and strength gains involve small samples, older participants, and varying intensities including uphill and Nordic variants. How much of the general population sits in the range where walking provides a genuine strength stimulus is not clearly established.
- Variants that blur the walking versus strength boundary, such as rucking with a weighted vest, steep incline walking, downhill walking, and stair climbing, are not addressed by the post. A 2014 randomized trial found downhill walking improves leg strength. The post's binary framing does not account for loaded or graded walking.
